Bulka Bag FAQs

  • What is a bulka bag?

A bulka bag, also referred to as a bulk bag, big bag, or by its technical term Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container (FIBC), is a large, flexible industrial container made of durable polypropylene fabric. These bags are designed to transport and store bulk materials

Notable for their strength and versatility, bulka bags are the ideal solution for space-restricted areas. They are also equipped with heavy-duty handles at each corner, allowing them to be easily handled by cranes, forklifts, Hiabs, or even helicopters.

  • How much volume is in a bulka bag?

The volume of a bulka bag can vary based on the specific size of the bag and the material it's holding. At SEQ Landscape Services, we offer two following size specifications for our bulka bags:

    • 1.5 Tonne / 1m3
    • 1 Tonne / 0.6m3

Material supply FAQs

  • How can I calculate the quantity of material I need?

Calculating the quantity of landscaping material you need involves a few simple steps:

    • Measure the area: Start by measuring the length and width of the area you plan to cover in metres. This will give you the total square footage. If your space is not a perfect rectangle, try breaking it down into smaller rectangles and calculating the area for each, then add those areas together.
    • Determine depth: The next step is to decide on the depth of the material. This will depend on the type of material you are using. For instance, mulch or topsoil is typically spread at a depth of 5-7.5 centimetres, while decorative rocks might be laid at a depth of 5-10 centimetres. Convert this measurement to meters for your calculation (for example, 7.5 centimetres is 0.075 metres).
    • Calculate volume: Multiply the area (in square metres) by the desired depth (in metres) to get the total volume in cubic metres.

For instance, if you have an area of 50 square metres that you want to cover with mulch to a depth of 7.5 centimetres, your calculation would look like this: 50 sq m x 0.075 m = 3.75 cubic metres. So you would need approximately 3.75 cubic metres of mulch for your project.

  • How do I install turf?

Here is a simple step-by-step guide on how to install turf:

    1. Clear the Area: Remove any existing grass, plants, rocks, or debris from the area where you will be installing the turf.
    2. Prepare the Soil: Loosen the top layer of soil with a garden tiller or a rake. This helps the turf roots to penetrate deep into the soil.
    3. Level the Ground: Rake and smooth the soil to create a level surface. You may need to add topsoil to fill in any low spots.
    4. Improve the Soil: Consider adding compost or a lawn starter fertilizer to the soil to provide nutrients that will help the turf establish quickly.
    5. Moisten the Soil: Lightly water the soil to provide a good base for the turf.
    6. Lay the Turf: Start at one end of your yard and roll out the first piece of turf. Make sure it's straight and all edges are butted snugly against any borders (like driveways or paths). Continue laying out the turf, making sure to stagger the joints like brickwork to avoid lines and help the turf knit together.
    7. Trim Excess: Use a sharp knife to cut off any excess turf around the edges.
    8. Tamp Down the Turf: Use a lawn roller or simply walk over the turf to press it firmly against the soil. This helps the roots make good contact with the soil.
    9. Water Thoroughly: After installation, water the turf thoroughly. This is crucial to ensure the turf beds in and starts to take root.
    10. Maintain Regularly: For the first couple of weeks, water the turf daily (unless it rains). Avoid heavy use during this time to allow the roots to establish. Once established, cut the grass as needed and feed with lawn feed as directed on the product's instructions.
